An Appetite for Hungary

Finding new places to add to our product range is always exciting, especially when we visit towns and cities in pristine condition, with their identities untarnished.

During October halfimg_6980 term OneStage embarked on a voyage of discovery through the Hungarian region of West Transdanubia. This is an area we have dropped in to over the years, along the Austrian border but had an opportunity to learn more to find out more about the Hungarian side.  Our delightful travel companions from British schools, music services and choral societies accompanied us along the route from Vienna – Sopron – Lake Balaton – Györ – Budapest. We discovered some exquisite town squares and concert venues, sampled the odd slurp of delicious Hungarian wines and resided in hotels boasting water parks (which ticked every child’s and many adult’s dream).fullsizerender

The Transdanubia region, in central Europe, offers excellent value for money. Hotels are clean and comfortable, with large spaces to gather in, rooms for rehearsals and lots of parking for coaches and instrument vans. The Hunguest Hotels had spa facilities (bring your own flip flops), swimming areas and some even have natural, thermal pools. An ideal way to spend a morning or afternoon relaxing on your tour, after working hard on your performances.

This is a region with many open-air stages which come to life as part of the summer festivals during the months of July and August. These stages would be ideal for concert band, brass bands and orchestras.  There is a pleasant choice of churches in Sopron, Györ and around Lake Balaton for choirs interested in singing in a more serene and religious environment. Many famous composers have travelled through these towns and left their legacy here to discover.img_6914

Extend your stay by combining the tranquility of West Transdanubia and Lake Balaton with Vienna or Budapest for contrast. Find out more from OneStage by completing our on-line form or giving us a call.

Thank you to Lighthouse Travel, our partners in Hungary, and everyone who accompanied us on our journey through Hungary. We have some wonderful memories we would like to share with you and hope to entice some music ensemble to discover these regions and enjoy them as much as we do.
