Another successful Easter for OneStage!

Tuesday, May 10th, 2016

OneStage celebrated a hugely successful winter and Easter tour programme this year, with prestigious projects including the Ely Cathedral Choir tour of Central Europe, Bristol University Chamber Ensembles visit to Prague, and Milton Abbey School’s successful visit to Paris.

Paul Trepte, Organist and Master of Choristers at Ely Cathedral commented “We are mightily impressed with One Stage and would not hesitate to ask again. We would certainly recommend you to others too, as we had a great time. We have much experience of touring all over the world and we think the hotels selected were some of the best we have encountered.”

Brussels Events

Tuesday, March 22nd, 2016

In the aftermath of the terrorist attacks in Brussels this morning, the British government are advising British Nationals currently in Belgium to stay away from crowded areas and not to use public transport. Similar advice is being given by the Belgian government to Belgian Nationals and Brussels residents and the metro system in the capital is currently closed. You will find the FCO advice in full here. https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/belgium

OneStage do not have any groups in the area at this present time. We will be monitoring the situation on behalf of groups who plan to visit Belgium in the coming weeks.

Happy New Year 2016

Wednesday, January 6th, 2016

Following a very successful 2015 season, OneStage is preparing for an even busier 2016. We would like to say a big thank you to all our clients for your loyalty and support and wish you all a prosperous and enjoyable 2016.

We are delighted to announce that OneStage has completed their School Travel Forum Assured Membership application and has been awarded a Learning Outside the Classroom (LOtC badge). Pippy has been working really hard to make sure that information from suppliers is systematically stored and that the safety of our groups is of paramount importance. Added to the many years of music touring knowledge and experience retained by OneStage staff, we are confident that this can only enhance our OneStage products. Logos will be added to our website very soon.

Italy is one of our top destinations for 2016 thanks in no small part to Laura (our Italian ‘guru’, who has been organising concerts throughout Tuscany, Umbria and the Veneto region for many years). We also welcome back Sarah Sharman from maternity leave (our fount of knowledge for French and German concerts), who will be working part-time managing and promoting some of our concerts.

Our Sales Team has already started work on 2017 tour projects, so if you are considering a tour, please get in touch for some destinations ideas and help with financial planning . We would really like to send some groups to the Lisbon Youth Music Festival, Mid-Europe Band Festival (Salzburg region) and the World Music Contest in Kerkrade.  We have a few special festivals for outstanding vocal and orchestral ensembles too.

If you would like to meet us, then we will have a stand at Music Education Expo 2016 on 25th and 26th February at Olympia. We welcome the opportunity to set up appointments with you, or simply visit us on Stand D9 to discuss your individual music touring requirements.

We look forward to working with you in 2016 and 2017.

Latest Paris Advice

Monday, November 16th, 2015

In the aftermath of the terrorist attacks in Paris last Friday, the British government have issued the following advice for British nationals travelling to France and Paris in particular.

On Friday 13 November, a number of terrorist incidents took place in Paris resulting in widespread casualties. British nationals are advised to exercise caution in public places and follow the advice of the local authorities. French authorities have heightened security measures due to a risk of further attacks. The advice of the Paris Police is currently to keep movement around town to a minimum. Systematic border control checks have been implemented at all entry points into France. A national state of emergency and a three-day period of mourning have been declared (14-16 November). Public gatherings, the flying of drones and use of fireworks in the Ile de France region (Paris and surrounding area) have been prohibited.

A full report can be found here. https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/france.

There is currently no official statement advising people against travelling to Paris. However, OneStage will be keeping reviewing this advice on a regular basis, in order to advise our clients who are booked to travel to Paris, or intend to book a tour there over the coming months.

To our friends and colleagues in Paris, our thoughts remain with you.

Memories of Alsace & The Black Forest, Oct 2015

Exploring Alsace & The Black Forest OneStage-style

Thirteen lucky travellers embarked on a journey from London to Strasbourg with Eurostar & TGV via Paris on Sunday morning, where we arrived safe and well with all our luggage intact at around 5pm. Our amazing, city-centre, youth accommodation ‘CIARUS’, deceptively large and ideal for ensembles requiring versatile rehearsal facilities, has en-suite rooms and enjoys an ideal city centre location. OneStage arranged a crisp, clear night for our evening guided walking tour (thank you Anne) visiting the main sights including Strasbourg Cathedral and the half-timbered buildings in Petite France and one of our wonderful concert venues. Dinner was at a traditional Alsatian restaurant in the city centre sampling some of the region’s culinary delights, a.k.a. copious amounts of choucroute and sausages.

A bright Monday morning revealed rows of storks’ nests in the trees, visits to other youth accommodations and potential concert opportunities. We meandered along the Alsatian wine route to the pretty town of Scherwiller, stopping for Flammeküche/ tarte flambée at a rustic Alsatian restaurant. Large groups welcome! A little wine tour and tasting seemed appropriate after dinner. The descending fog and limited lighting meant that we regrettably postponed our visit to the Chateau du Haut-Königsbourg, in favour of heading onwards to Lake Titisee in the Black Forest.

Shimmering sunlight on Tuesday morning revealed glittering autumnal golds, browns and reds in the forests surrounding our guest house. A truly dazzling sight and great start to the morning, with a hearty German breakfast to set us up for the day. We visited numerous villages and venues, stopped off in a farm house to enjoy some local produce and had plenty of time in Freiburg. Our guided tour revealed some fascinating aspects about Freiburg and the coffee and Black Forest Gateau in Cafe Atrium was simply divine. We left Freiburg feeling content and hungry for a sumptious German meal that awaited us at a traditional Black Forest Straussenwirtschaft. Mulhouse was our final destination, where we checked in to our hotel and enjoyed our final night on tour.

Our last morning ended with a final visit to one of our favourite concert venues in Mulhouse before we made a dash to the station for our train to Paris, a mere 2h,20min journey. We travelled across Paris to the Gare du Nord, with plenty of time to check in to our Eurostar back to London. This OneStage team thoroughly enjoyed the company of each and every participant and we would like to thank you once again for joining us on our whirlwind tour of these lovely regions and we look forward to working with you very soon.

Our special thanks to Tourisme Alsace, Strasbourg Tourist Board, Voyages SNCF, CIARUS and The Hoch-Schwarzwald Tourist Office for their suggestions and support.

PICARDY – Ideal for a first time tour especially for prep-school aged children. Boulogne or Calais are great bases for short trips with activities such chocolate factories, theme parks, steam train rides and the Aquarium. The historical museum at La Coupole is an ideal visit on the return journey.

ICELAND – We are delighted to be adding Iceland to our musical destination portfolio with our first tour departing in October 2014 to Reykjavik.

MALTA – A tiny island with hundreds of churches and great sunshine.  Take a full day trip over to Gozo or simply explore in Valletta and enchanting Mdina. Ideal for choirs and bands but only reachable by plane.

ITALY – This is such a wonderful destination and we simply love Italy.

Brighton & Hove Youth Big Band

The northern area is reachable by coach (Liguria, Tuscany, The Lakes & Veneto), further south we have to rely on flights.  Pretty towns & villages, plenty of music festivals in churches and outdoors.
